retire from the Public Service on 18th. July, 1912, when he will
have attained the age of 55 years. I see no objection to this.

To fill the vacancies which would thus
be created in the posts of Senior Executive Engineer and
Executive Engineers 2nd. Grade, the Director of Public Works
recommends Mr. C. H. Gale, senior amongst the Executive
Engineers, and Mr. A. E. Wright, senior amongst the Assistant
Engineers, with the exception of Mr. I. M. Xavier whom he does
not regard as suitable for promotion, at the new rates approved
for these posts in your Despatch No. 60 of 23rd. February, 1911.
I concur in these recommendations. The records of service of
these Officers will be found on pages 296 and 340 of the Civil
Service List.

I have to request your approval to these
proposals with effect from 12th. April the date of Mr. J. F.
Boulton's retirement.
5.
I am addressing you in separate Despatch-
-es with regard to the Sterling salary and duty allowances
which I propose should be attached to the posts of First and
Second Assistant Director of Public Works and also with regard
to filling the vacancy in the Staff of Assistant Engineers
which will exist in the event of your approving the promotion
